Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the certification good for?
The card certifies that the individual has met the standards on the day of the
course and it is good for two years from that date. Although it may serve an
individualʼs needs at that time, we recommend that the course be repeated
annually if the individual does not work in the healthcare industry where CPR
frequently takes place.
What is ʽHands Only CPRʼ and will I learn it?
Hands Only CPR was introduced by the American Heart Association in March
2008 and it is designed for the general public when they witness someone
collapse. Our class teaches the standard CPR methods and Hands Only CPR,
and when to use it for best results.
Can I get AIDS from doing CPR?
No. There has never been a documented case of AIDS transmitted by CPR.
Can I kill someone if I do CPR incorrectly?
No. Remember the person in cardiac arrest is already clinically dead. CPR can
only help. Even if it's not done perfectly, it will probably provide some benefit
to the victim.
Will CPR always save a life?
No, in fact, most instances of CPR for cardiac arrest are unsuccessful. The
use of CPR and an AED dramatically increases the personʼs chances.
What is the most common cause for an infant or child to need CPR?
Usually CPR in infants and children is performed for respiratory arrest that is
preceded by a foreign airway body obstruction. We emphasize the
importance in recognizing and treating this emergency.
